tempo scow

Post by ianmgds »

I came across your site as i googled Tempo Scow. I have a fully functioning scow from 1969 and would like to know if there are any others about?? My sail No is T18.
I also have a full set of plans for the dinghy, along with news letters from the late 60s and early 70s for a group of scow devotees. I brought the boat from the son in law of the guy who actually built it last year and have done some remedials and she sails very nicely.

If there is anyone interested to chat or needs some plans for restoration please get in touch.

Any chance you could put the images on photobucket, flickr or google-images??

For your information there has been a wooden Tempo for sail on the boards at Roadford Lake (West Devon), since last year. Not sure if this is still available. Can't remember what they were asking for it....but suspect over 1000quid

A plastic one came up on ebay a while ago and then went...and then came up again. Seem to remember is was cheapish....but still somehow more than it looked like it was worth.

It is a class that has always provoked a lot of interest here on the CVRDA forum, hence all of us wanting to see pictures.

Of course, there are lots of images on the german Tempo sites.

Hope to see her at an event some time.

cheers

I think that your Tempo and the one on the Roadford noticeboard maybe one and the same as the owner mentioned that it was his father inlaws when he sailed it here. I will check the notice board again and confirm. From memory I believe he said it had been home built.

No, you are right, that link didn't work.... :(

you could try again....it isn't normally a problem.

you might just need to make sure you have got all the settings right....but don't think there are many for just sharing a collection of images.

Anyway, hope you can sort it out.

we would at least have a better idea whether it is the same boat.

cheers

I'm almost certain this is the same boat, as Crapstone is local (half hours drive) to Roadford, or it could be a rare coincidence.

Looking good, yes I'm sure it is same the one as it was dark blue, AlanW will along shortly and I know he looked at it in detail at the time it was at the lake.

Ah....well in that case only the plastic one that was for sale down St Austell Way.

Where is the pond you were sailing on?

The landscape looks very familiar!

it is near wotton under edge, glos. The monument on the top of the hill is a memorial to william tyndale who translated the bible in to english and was martyred for his trouble. It is near Michael Wood Services on the M5.

Not my place but a rich friend of the family. I sail up at the Cotswold Water Park near Cirencester.

Could this mean that this tempo is the only original one still afloat?? I had better look after it!!!

regards

Which lake are you on, Ian? I'm at Whitefriars, and have a Minisail there, so if you fancy at least sailing with another scow, you are welcome to visit!

Nationals are at Whitefriars, too, August Bank Holiday.

With JPA and his classic fleet at WSC, and Steve and his Merlin at South Cerney, too, we are starting to build a little Cotswold classic fleet. Perfect area for them, really, but we must make sure to all sail together occasionally!
