Is someone trying to hack our forum?

Post by Nigel »

Hi all,

when I logged in just now, I found my account had locked due to too many failed attempts - not by me. Is anyone else having the same problem?

it's going to be difficult to hack, one of the reason why we have this particular feature

If someone is trying to guess passwords can I encourage everyone to ensure they have a password that's not easy to guess, please don't use your boat name or class for your password as these are easy to find

More likely another Nigel who has forgotten that he registered as Nigelx or something else.
But if it happens to anyone else we want to know.

Thanks for that.

I will try and chat to Neil sometime soon and see if there is anything else we can do.

To be honest, the answer to the original question is almost certainly 'yes'.

The forum is quite big now and gets a lot of traffic. We regularly get bogus applications for membership from spammers/hackers and I am sure that 'bots' also try and log on through known members names.

But, as Neil says....that is why we have these systems in place to stop them.

Just keep your fingers crossed and hope that our systems for keeping them out stay in front of their systems for getting in!

cheers

Time to change my log in for something really difficult, then. BTW, is it easier for them if the stay logged on box is ticked?

mmmmmmmmmmmm.....not sure it makes any difference.

If you are logged in, it doesn't stop another computer logging on as well.

Yes, I've just been locked out after the first entry of password etc Anyway the extra precaution seemed to do the trick.

Care to sponsor a certain Merlin Rocket with your supplies Michael? We'd even paint it the pale blue colour and call it 'red shift' (that or 'headache'!!)
