It's the club barbeque and what's cooking?
Burgers? Sausages? or even a steak? No. Chris Barlow is barbequing his bronze pintle - in true cvrda style

Did he have it with a nice granary roll, a slice of cheese and some lettuce?

Thank you very much Pat!!!
What else do you do at Roadford?
It straightened it out safely without splitting it.
Must remember Roadford has some shallows and not try to take short cuts!

Re: A True Stalwart
Most shallow bits at Roadford are soft though.....mud or weeds.
Where did you hit something solid? the island? the spit opposite the cafe? or up one of the estuaries?

Re: A True Stalwart
No it was soft enough so I don't really know what happened. It was between Shop and heading to the finish line near the jetty. Lois couldn't raise the centreboard quickly and so we slewed round and got both rudder and board stuck. Quite weedy there too. I thought we would make it if we heeled and kept the board up a little because I didn't want to put a tack in as The lark was just behind me and higher so would not be tacking. I probably would have won but we managed 2nd I think. The pintel was just bent enough to stop me lifting off the rudder rather than anything too dramatic but it has just started to make a split in the bronze.
I may be looking for a sound replacement....Anyone got a lower bronze pintel sapare?

Re: A True Stalwart
mmmm.....unlucky that. it is normally pretty soft there, but the water is far enough out that there is more hard stuff. The mud has congregated around the high-water mark.
As for pintel......Maybe.....will look. I think I might have a Fairey one or two......but fear they might also be compromised by cracks/repairs.
Incidentally. I have tried repairs.....and had one that was done really well and is every bit as strong as original.....but others just wouldn't take. welding or brazing bronze fittings is really hard. But it might be worth seeing if youi can find an expert welder who has the skills to do it.

Re: A True Stalwart
If all else fails there is a specialist welding company at Menheniot I believe called Weldspray who can weld phosphor bronze as I used them during the restoration of a Morgan Moss gearbox to weld up a broken selector rod which was supposedly NLA and unrepairable, the process I seem to remember was called eutectic welding.

Re: A True Stalwart
Yes I was thinking of looking into brazing, and thanks for looking for old pintels - most welcome!
