Boom for OK
on a very limited budget - we need an aluminium boom for needlespar rig for Tom's OK. We have an all wood setup, and just bought a needlespar mast for regular club sailing - but the boom designed to go through the slot in the wooden mast, will not suit the needlespar.
Any help appreciated;

Re: Boom for OK
Thanks Nigel for the info - its not suitable tho as the OK needs a rectangular section boom.

Re: Boom for OK
I have a couple of rectangular section booms that came off my Unicorn cat. If it's any use I can bring one down to the CVRDA bash in August.

Re: Boom for OK
I have a rectangular section 'Lazy E' boom, used on the Leader but now spare since I got a Super Spars boom to match the mast. Came from the Scouts at Lewes for a tenner. Think it's about 3" x 1" section. Will measure later. pn. me.

Re: Boom for OK
Aaah...... mast rotates so boom fits into a bracket with a big pin & R clip holding it and making it rotate the mast?jpa_wfsc wrote:Thanks Nigel for the info - its not suitable tho as the OK needs a rectangular section boom.

Re: Boom for OK
... was the first place I went to but nothing doing - sold, given away or incomplete. Have also established that the Pacer boom is the right section but is too short. And yes - the mast fitting is the same as Europe, Finn, and Lightning.Nigel wrote:a couple of complete boats for £150 and a wooden mast for £35

The Finn boom is a heavier guage section but otherwise suitable. I might try there (would need to shorten one a little but thats trivial compared to making one longer!).

Re: Boom for OK
I wonder if the europe boom is also too short? (I used to have an OK, but can't remember the length of the boom) The yellow europe K11, that came from Sami suffered some serious damage on Saturday and may be visiting the great boat park in the sky. I am waiting to hear from the insureres. If my worst fears are realised I will have a spare boom....

Re: Boom for OK
I'm sorry to here of the potential demise of the Europe - but if it has gone, Sami is looking for a mast! Hope no one hurt in the disaster.
OK boom has to be 2680 mm from the back face of the mast to the black line so perhaps 2730 ish overall, with a section 37mm wide and 50 to 90 mm deep.

Re: Boom for OK
Likely to be a Europe mast. Possibly still there but a long way away

Re: Boom for OK
The Lazy E boom is.......
2705mm x 90mm x 30mm (Tape marked at 2640mm)
square one edge and rounded opposite.
grooved both top and bottom.
Any good or too narrow?

Re: Boom for OK
That could be OK'd - would need some cheek pieces to make fit snugly in the jaws. You have one available? Please send details...
