Help ID this Finn Lookalike

Post by Dino »

I just spotted this on a local ads website
http://www.adverts.ie/boats-accessories ... ngy/721139
The price is crazy, I'd say they need to knock the 1 off that price.
It looks very like a finn, does anyone know what it is?

Hi Dino,

Glad you found your way here from Y&Y!

Could it be something local to Ireland? Not sure who we have on here from that far west...

It's definitely not an Irish class. I've never seen one of these before and I've sailed all over Ireland.

I just got word that it's 12ft long by 5ft and the spars are wooden.
I'm still none the wiser so I'm guessing the boat is foreign.

It is quite distinctive though. Unlikely to confuse it with something else. No idea what it is but I do like the look of it.

The sail logo looks like some sort of insect, a mosquito or dragonfly or nymph.

Not in Burrets (to save anyone else from flicking through every page and getting distracted by -- "oh gosh that looks nice...")

Not in any of the books, old or new. Trouble is, there appear to be no books from that time in the dinghy doldrums called the late 70's and 1980's, so any boats which were designed after that but were gone by the 90's are missing from the record.

The sail logo looks remarkably similar to that on the Yamaha Hopper which is a Laser clone.
I wonder whether this could be another Japanese clone?

Well..not so sure : the dragonfly on the yamaha sea hopper has a blue body with red wings while this articular insect is more heavily stylized and all red.

I don' think it is a french design, it is obviously a downsized finn intended as a first step forfuture finnists (like the 0K or the french R9M) ...could be spanish(poliglasroga?, or Italian...) who is the maker for the fittings (curry cleats , sheet blocks, sailmaker) , It would nbe a clue
