HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
Re: HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
I may have a young volunteer and I might even be able to persuade Dad to bring his geep! Bonus if it works out. Will keep you posted.

Re: HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
Alas I am having to bail out of this one. Nothing wrong with the boat, well nothing else anyway. But my towing vehicle/camper has decided to defy my patience with essential maintenance and currently has no brakes.
I am having to replace the entire front brake system pipework, as all the 28 year old unions, bleed nipples, etc, have either siezed solid or have already been rounded off by a gorilla with a spanner - so much for garage maintained!
Think of me under the van in the rain.
Now where is that pipe flaring kit?
Apologies to all.

Re: HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
Stephen, that is a shame. There is the chance of another Holt N12 available if you want to sail that one.
I guess as its the camper it means you are without accomodation for the night.
Can we get you there somehow.
If we can help in any way let us know.
Such a shame as Planet did so well at SHearwater and is such a pretty boat.

Re: HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
I only went in to change the disks and pads as they were scored.
So far it has cost me extra:
1 x master cyclinder
2 x new calipers
1 x ball joint
2 x stud conversion
2 x new spacers
2 x flexible pipes
5 x copper pipes to be made up.
2 x sets of front wheel bearings.
4 pipe clips
1 T piece for the new copper pipe.
I am doing this myself and so far I have almost completed the job 3 times, only to be foiled at the last step by a seized bolt/union/nut/nipple......But it also means I have spent all my pocket money.....And I have not sailed for 3 weeks.
I am going to have to have a rest........

I think Jonathon of the now deceased simoun is coming to crew for Mikey. I am trying to persuade him to come to Clywedog with the 420 he has to replace the french thing, so look for him folks. He might well be looking for a crew himself if he does come to Wales.

Re: HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
Sorry....being very lazy....
but can someone tell me where the information is for the event.
Timetable?
When is first race?
I am still really trying to clear the decks enough to come.
I have still tons of work....and really not sure boat/trailer is ready....but if get finished sometime tonight, might tow up overnight or early tomorrow. Hence wondering what time it all starts.

Cor Blimey....
early start then, or maybe just drive through and get there for the morning.
Does anyone know when the gates are open/closed, or when they open in the morning?
cheers
eib
Other option of course is to just make it for the afternoon??

Re: HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
Just got back and unpacked.
Thanks to everyone who helped, assisted, promoted, turned up and enjoyed. The sun shone on Jack Holt and despite the forecast some travelled up to 7 hours to attend.
Full report later but it was a great success and Wraysbury lake were wonderful.

Re: HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
Thanks to all at cvrda and wraysbury sailing club for a fantastic weekend. The return journey was a tad under 6 hours which included a pit stop in Leicester after one of the trailer tyres blew out!! Anyway worth the journey to meet some great people and beautiful boats.
Note to self : avoid the M1 at all costs where possible!!!!
See you all soon I hope.

Re: HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
Fantastic weekend!
Thanks to Wraysbury for everything. The final pursuit race on sunday was great fun in perfect weather and wind - I even got sunburnt which wasn't expected.
And for those who couldn't make it...one of the sponsors had provided two barrels of free beer for the weekend...perfec!
I think a special thanks should go to Roger who put so much effort into getting this off the ground and organising things. Others helped too so thanks to everyone as well and thanks for the people who came with their Holt boats. It all added up to an excellent celebration of Holt's work.
Its interesting to note that Wraysbury, Chichester and there is to be a Tideway down the Thames from Putney in October which are the three places Holt was particularly associated with have celebrated his centaenary yet as far as I know the 'Sailing Press' have hardly mentioned his centenary.

Re: HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
Hi Chris
Probably because he didn't design Polyboats and MOD's whose makers spend shedloads of money on advertising in the "yachting press". I have not brought a Y&Y for years due to the fact it's getting more like a catalogue with every edition.
Good to hear you all had a good time and I wish I could have been with you but due to leaving it too late and then finding that my crew was unavailable for the Sunday ( the only day I could sail due to the reason outline bellow), decided not to come.
Graham Brooks and me had to go to Christchurch for the Finn AGM on the Saturday. This journey is normally about 2.5 -3hrs but due to flooded roads took us 6hrs. Graham was elected President of the British Finn Assoc. and I'm on the National Committee as the Classic Finn Rep. So needless to say we will be pushing the CVRDA events and the sailing of classic Finns.
Cheers Al
