Re: Just Checking.....
I most certainly will not be giving up!!
Whilst the last 4-5 years have been taken up as Coach, Trolley Dolley, Driver and Banker for the kids, I've not been much tempted to get back on the water until I saw the boy in the OK on Sunday. I haven't been this excited about sailing in years!
As far as I can tell, at Oxford SC (Farmoor) we have the Yoofs boat (1915).
Of the calls I made tonight,
1 - No answer still
2 - 1225 (maybe mine shortly )
3 - a very old boat no longer kept at the Club, but it's been badly holed in 2 places (trolley) and the owner is now 80 and no longer sailing.
4 - Did have an OK but sold it a couple of years ago
5 - Has an O'Donnell composite (19--?) that's just waiting on a final coat of varnish before coming out to play again. This chap was delighted to hear about our developments and is now fully enthused to get the refurb completed.
Not bad for an evening's work.

Thanks bootscooper but think I've probably given up on the class now we have lots of OKs at Ardleigh during winter and wanted to race against them. Only looking to spend 3 or 4 hundred now.

Well I've bought 1225!
Hull is fantastic, but I'll need to update the controls. Details and pics to come.

Re: Just Checking.....
Well done Jon.
Look forward to details and pics. I can take some pics of the hull detail of 1211 for interest as they must have been registered only weeks apart. She's a Peter Crew boat.
Well worth getting some decent control lines set up. One of the things that sets the OK miles apart from a certain inferior singlehander that most sheep sail.
As you know, lots of info and help to be had in the class. A great bunch.

Ace picture!
This week I shall be trawling the 'net to find the best deals on 20mm blocks (13 I think), cleats (8), 1 double and 1 triple block and lengths of variously coloured dyneema. Not going to be cheap!

Re: Just Checking.....
pffft. there goes my chances at getting cheap stuff on ebay then
To be honest, much stuff on ebay seem to be no longer the bargains they once were.

Re: Just Checking.....
I did a (very) qiuck comparison last night, and I think that especially with a discount I negotiated a while back with a certain supplier that may rhyme with "Burp-Hell Janine", I'm going to be better off buying a large box of everything required from them
Re: Just Checking.....
It may be worth putting a "wanted" ad on the new facebook dinghy bits for sale group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/dinghies/ - I have found this to be a great way to move on used bits without e-bay costs so I can charge less.

That page is a great idea, but I appear to be the only person in the world that doesn't "do" Facebook (and Twitter!). Also, I'm hoping to do most, if not all of the work this coming Saturday.Graham T wrote:It may be worth putting a "wanted" ad on the new facebook dinghy bits for sale group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/dinghies/ - I have found this to be a great way to move on used bits without e-bay costs so I can charge less.
Re: Just Checking.....
You're not alone. That makes two of us without a Facebook or Titter account. Just cannot see the logic.
Peter... I think you Finns have to be nice to everbody, don't you?. The more hands to help with the pull up the slipway the better?.

Re: Just Checking.....
If we see as many OKs sailing as we have Finns on occasion I will be very pleased. I've only sailed an Ok on a few occasions, when my brother and I stopped sailing cats I bought a Finn and he an OK, K25 which was brilliant. If I wasn't obsessed with the Finn I'd probably be sailing an OK, I'd certainly be a much better weight for it. And yes, a hand up the slip is always very welcome!
