Where you live

Post by Chris B »

Hi

I wonder if I could ask a polite request that more forum members place the town or area where they live on the left hand side of their forum posts. It would certainly make them more interesting to know what part of the country they are writing from.

Incidentally where are 'The Flatlands'? - mustn't be near me - Tee Hee!

Many thanks

The Flatlands are this hideous part of the country which has no hills and which floods. The floods always position themselves between me and the sailing club, turning a 15 minute drive into an ordeal of at least 30 minutes which involves the A14.

well I've always put up North Wales in my profile, but it never seems to show it on the side bar.

To be more accurate I'm situated on the North Wales riviera - along that arc that extends from Abersoch to Harlech :)

Mine should say the West Midlands, a that is where I am based for most of my sailing.

Good call!

The Cotswold Water Park...

Not in the Cotswolds, has very little public access to water, and isn't a park...

But otherwise, a very well named place.

Good idea, hopefully have sorted mine out.

Have done mine. It can be confusing though - Chris, Roger and us are about 3 miles apart but there's a county boundary in between so I can't really put Somerset even though I sail and supermarket shop there. We live in Wiltshire like Rupert, but at the opposite end of the county, socialise in Dorset and have been shopping to Bristol twice this week.
Wessex would perhaps be more descriptive!
I work in Wiltshire and occasionally Hampshire and even Dorset but also administer computers in Scotland, Wales and the Midlands - it often feels as if I've spent the time away rather than in the office, when I've been hanging on the phone to someone elsewhere all day and logged into the computers there, more aware of the background happenings there than in the surrounding office in Warminster. It's a good thing we love travelling, virtual or for real!

I think mines done heres the test.

Live in Rugeley Staffordshire and Work in Birmingham. Most importantly play at Blithfield, Staffordshire. Although this year I plan of doing a few more away events including the Merlin Midland Circuit and all CVRDA meets I can make (Crews Permitted).

Ok, I'll add my play places too.

My sailing clubs are Hunts first and foremost where I am training Principal and do a little bit of racing, Grafham, where I go when I want to be alone  and Grafham Sailability where I am sailing sec and CI and get very stressed and very rewarded. I do travel a lot though, partly collecting boats to add to the flotilla, and partly to race, and this year also to coach and instruct. Highlights of the year (all being well) should be a Contender Worlds in Italy and the CVRDA Nationals at Hunts. Lowlight could well be Plymouth observing an RYA L1 in a few weeks' time - it'll be cold!

A bit late catching up with this. I'm just down the road from Chris, Pat, Roger etc and race/potter about at Shearwater and instruct youngsters at WWYSA at Westbury.

The equivalant in France to British counties are departments and they are very large by Brit standards. Each has a name and an admin number. I live in the north east corner of Aude (11) but if i go a few mins north, i'm in Herault (34) which stretches quite some distance to the north.
I've sailed the OK and the Gull from a public slipway at Cabanes de Fluery where the river Aude meets the Med but I have all the forms filled in ready to join a sailing/boating society just outside Narbonne(11) and will be dropping them off there any day now. The Sprint/Dart will be kept there as it is only 20 mins from my front door. A huge lake just back from the sea so should be nice and flat and fast.
Locally, it seems a bit of a desert for old dinghies. The OK is having a big revival in France and there is some OK sailng to be had within reasonable distance(200 miles of fast motorway). So 2013 sailing looks exciting but i'll miss the fun of CVRDA events.
