Hi,

I am getting really behind on doing Stu's IC rudder.

the thing that is really slowing me down is that I specced the shaft up, but after a little research and chat with those that know, I have had to re-think and find something a bit beefier than what I have in the workshop.

When in Bristol, I could just pop down to a few places and find something. But down here....I havn't got anything sorted out. Does anybody know any supplier of stainless that will sell in small amounts and will take orders by phone or web and who will deliver?

I am after:

12-13 mm rod s/steel

or better a tube with OD 12-13mm and another bit of rod that will fit inside.

I am also after a small bit of alloy billet/rod approx 28mm OD

Any ideas of ways I can get hold of this without driving miles and miles would really be appreciated.

cheers

You could try Wessex Fasteners in Swindon, who do an amazing amount of stuff, but it is all in their heads, in the old fashioned way. According to the internet, their number is 01793 613369.

Well they are certainly closer.....but at moment, I am having a problem just getting out of the house, due to being rather busy workwise.

however its Port of Plymouth Regatta next week so may try and get away a bit early and pop down there first

cheers

Hi Ed,

I usually do a quick check on ebay at: Business, Office & Industrial> Manufacturing & Metalworking>.

Loads of ally and stainless rod, tube, billet and sheet in small quantities.

Usually turns up within 2 days if paypalled.

Best Regards,

Nigel

That's been my experience as well Ed - and very helpful over the phone. I can't remember exactly what it was that I needed but he machined something for me too and charged virtually nothing.
