And this is...
And this is...
It came to me on a scan with some archive Canoe photographs. Of course I could just ask the gentleman who sent me the scan, but where's the fun in that?
Re: And this is...
It's got to be a TOY singlehander by Tony Allen. You can see the Y on the sail. Also the aft position of the sliding seat is a good hint.

Oh grief, now you say that I can see the distinctive TOY bow profile...Rod wrote:It's got to be a TOY singlehander by Tony Allen. You can see the Y on the sail. Also the aft position of the sliding seat is a good hint.

Jim...
actually, you have a cast iron get out clause on this - for it is but isn't a ToY!!
If you look carefully, no fully batten main...this is a real rarity - a Toy2000! So... got you off the hook there!

Perhaps I should say that all the other photos it came with are 1974 vintage, so I doubt the TOY 2000 - and didn't that lack the plank? But yes, I'm sure it was the lack of FB main that threw me [grin]davidh wrote:If you look carefully, no fully batten main...this is a real rarity - a Toy2000! So... got you off the hook there!
Re: And this is...
ToY2000 had traps and wings.
Not seen a Toy with a soft sail before. Given the shroud angle and how the full battens would distort when further than out than on a broad reach, it just might have worked better, especially as it wasn't a massively fast boat.

Re: And this is...
Hull certainly is exactly the same as Amy's TOY
Re: And this is...
I have a brand new sail for the ToY here which I need to get to Amy. It has never been used and is really quite soft Dacron, not like the others she had with the boat, though it is still fully battened. It was made by Jack Holt and abandoned in the depths of a warehouse. I have a contender one the same. It would be really interesting to see it in use.

Re: And this is...
Didn't the Toy have two mainsail sizes? 10m^2 and 8.4m^2?
Re: And this is...
Yep, there are two sizes listed in PY published numbers.
Re: And this is...
It's a Toy ( Tony's Own Yacht - named after Tony Allen the designer ) with a Phantom mainsail. Obviously the Solo sail that was used originally was considered too small. The T2000 used the same hull with a much larger sail, wings and a trapeze.
Re: And this is...
There were several different sized sails with the one Amy has. The smallest was tiny!

Re: And this is...
I had one with the Solo sail, and it was too small. I imagine the bigger sail came in to fit the Olympic class criteria just a few years in, but it looks lie both rigs survived, as my boat was newer than that, I think.
A Phantom rig would have worked well - should have thought of that when I owned the boat.
