Original windsurfer/windsurfer one design (WOD)

Post by ent228 »

After an afternoon on my Mistal Club, I feel like going back to my misspent youth and playing with a WOD this summer.
Anyone got one in any condition or any bits lying around?

Most have probably got binned by now but you never know..........

Pure masochism....

wooden booms, masts that broke in the slightest breeze, dishrag sails....and all on a board that weighed as much as a Finn..

totally mad, but hey....go for it dude.

Both mine went many years ago, and I waited a long time before selling them. I was only amazed that anyone would give me any money for them.

I would imagine you may well get paid to take them away these days...

They are like elephants...being killed off for the tusks...or teak booms in this case! That should mean they're available boom less of course, I'll keep my eyes open!

And if you can get hold of one of the original yellow boards they're quite a collector's item......but haven't seen one for many years, so doubt there are any around now.

...not to mention the tiny thin skeg, no foot straps and Round rails, that made it almost impossible to do a water start, and as soon as the wing blew enough to do one you could only sail it with that centreboard fully down and the mast tipped forwards, which depowered the rig so much you would just go sideways.

Designed to sail like a conventional boat with an upright mast, mast bent to depower and centre of effort around the centreplate. No concept of windward rig to create lift.
