Lovely but I wonder how may of us restrict our enthusiasm to boats that will fit in our garages?

Shame. When you think of the thousands people are prepared to spend on a tubby 12 foot clinker 'character' boat, the fact that a bit of history like this has no bids at £500 with a day and a half to go is sad. The difference in practicality must be huge though. If I had an army of helpers, a 4x4 and a small aircraft hangar, I'd have been in there like a shot.

That's why I built this one over a weekend as it wouldn't fit in the workshop
And as luck would have once the ambulance is sorted I now have more boat storage should it ever be required.

Agreed, but I have two 'tubby 12 foot clinker 'character' boats' for just those reasons...plus one other reason...they appear to be about the only dinghy that sells for more than one pays for it...Hotspur wrote:Shame. Re: Clinker National 18 on eBay
I note 590lbs and £500 that makes £1.18/pound.
That seemed quite expensive until I worked out the number for my first Finn which was about 250lbs and cost £150 which makes it £1.66/pound!!!
I'm definitely going to rush off and get this one as it's a real bargin.........or maybe not.....
What's your cost/pound?

Re: Clinker National 18 on eBay
These are the boats in which Dad, with wife & small children + Grandpa and the dog, Picnic, bucket & spade, and windbreak on board can sail (with lifted Short shaft, Seagull outboard) from a launching point in Falmouth, Helston, St Mawes, Dartmouth, Salcombe, Plymouth, Bosham, Itchenor, Emsworth, Poole or Christchurch or any other estuary, and head for a day of endless Summer, Sandcastling, Rock pooling and crabbing, on a beach near the harbour entrance.
The Sun will shine all day and the wind will be favourable, and the memory, which is worth more than coral, will introduce and sustain a young desire to sail for ever.
I am determined that one day I might own one, though I have yet to marry off my daughters!
