rare boat on eBay? Daring?

Post by Er-Indoors »

While Nessa is out for the weekend playing with engines it falls to me to keep up her surfing quota. So, under orders: what is this, is it a Daring?

HI Nicky,

I did email nessa back on this last night and so far have not been able to dig further to either confirm or deny my suspicions.

I'm emailing Dave Lee at Starcross - just on the offchance that he will be able to make a quick trip to Dartmouth to take a peek.

Should it be a Daring (not saying at this point if it is or isn't) then it really MUST be saved - for this would be a rare boat indeed.

Not likely a Daring with this In House description?

More likely an early Scorpion?

It is a tricky one. Looking at the rigging, the boat is set for a trapeze. The length/beam ratio suggested a Ghost, but the bow profile is all wrong for that.

Until such times that we get a loa and beam measurement, this will remain the subject of much speculation I'm afraid!

B-C.... not a Scorpion...but my guessing is that the beam is somewhere twixt 4ft 6" and 4ft 8".

we'll have to wait for confirmation from the hull dimensions but think I've sussed this one now.

Interesting looking boat, that looks like it carries a fair bit of rag.

Looks too long for a Daring, which according to our database is just over 14ft.

the lack of rolled in decks doesn't worry me as this looks like a homebuild to me.

Look forwards to hearing correct dimensions and what it might be.

However....as far as saving goes, might be me, but from photos I do wonder if it has gone beyond easy repair. Not to say it couldn't be repaired, but simply that it might be easier to start afresh - if you were so inclined.

Ed,

I'm pretty certain that (if my working out is confirmed) that we can relax on this one! I am no longer working out how to dash down to Dartmouth! A shame, as this is an interesting looking boat, but in the end, not one that falls into that 'must save' category. I could be wrong but..... have moved on from this one!

Hi Al..... got up 3 or 4 comments and you'll get the clue! Beam...somewhere between 4ft 6" and 4ft 8"........

My guess it that it originally had a plank, that was removed and the plate case exposed - some of those supports don't look very beefy to me!
