Trophies

Post by Pat »

Please can those lucky winners from previous years remember to bring back their trophies to Clywedog.

If you can't attend and have a trophy to return please post here and we'll try to arrange something.

First classic, vintage and old boat trophies
Concourse trophies
Wingnut
Plastic Duck (we've got that one)
Travellers' trophies

what else?

I didn't win it, but have a "furthest travelled" trophy which I shall bring along. Can't remember why I have it, offhand.

Has the wingnut ever been recovered? A shame when people don't return things.

Surely it is Pan and Sandy who have the wing nut trophy? Haven't they won it for the last three years? Haha...

Pat, can you pm me about meeting up at Clywedog?

Unfortunately the wing nut went missing several years ago. I won it but never held the trophy as did Ed. Shame really as it is the most prestigious trophy the cvrda has.

Traveller results are ready, we just need the bell and the I14 mast gate!

We won the wingnut at Bough Beech but the previous holder hadn't returned it (whoever last had it).

I have the Broadwoodwidger, I've just got the engraving updated. I'll bring it with me unless the next recipient bribes me sufficiently!

I'm not sure but the last memories of the wingnut are Netley 2008 when it went to the two who took out Roger's GP and broke the centreboard but didn't realise! The board had drifted ashore and been retrieved before they noticed something was amiss.

After that it was Ed's swimming at Roadford in 2009 but I'm not sure if it was there to be awarded.

Before leaving Hunts last year I handed over the "furthest travelled" trophy to Kathryn knowing I wouldn't make it to Clywedog 2014 and it would be in safe hands. In safe hands it is, thank you Whelan family.
The Wingnut however might be lost. It's a far to practical object to hand over I fear. Somehow I seem to recall Tom telling me he won it before having used the nut on a boat since (I could be wrong).

No, it had gone long before Tom, sadly. I've been trying to remember if it made it to Whitefriars, even.

Sorry all - We still have the wingnut on our mantlepiece. We won it for capsizing an uncapsizeable dinghy at the Whitefriars Nationals...

I will pass it to Rupert.

Hooray the wingnut has been re found. Thank you Andrews family.

Now we need to know who won it this year?

The winner was in a boat which while approching the slipway, hooked a submerged trolley with the mainsheet. Not noticing, the boat continued sailing, dragging the trolley. The helm then decided to jump out, not realizing that 1, the water was still deep, and 2, he had the mainsheet wrapped round his ankle. So, picture a Merlin Rocket sailing along happily with both a trolley and a person being dragged along behind. Congratulations, Tim Bury!

Great the the Wingnut has been located. Maybe we can somehow use the cvrda courier service to get it to Banbury for presentation there? Sadly, I won't be going, but can pass it on to the next step in the chain.
