Albacore rudder wanted - FOUND ONE!!

Post by robjarman »

I am looking for an original rudder stock for a Fairey Marine Albacore = number 651, built 1960 - attached pic shows what I am looking for. Measurement between pintles' lower faces = 338mm.

alternatively (preferably), any suggestions for who might be able to replace corroded rivets and alloy cheek plates as shown in pic? I am trying to keep the boat as close to original spec as poss.

very many thanks for looking!

Yes, those Fairey rudder stocks are a bit on the rare side now....

I have looked on and off for years for a Jollyboat one.

Not sure who to suggest for cutting new side-plates. Shouldn't be too hard, but would expect to pay quite a bit for them.

cheers

Marine grade aluminium sheet offcuts seem pretty cheap on eBay I would have a go at making them.

The trickiest bit is probably the rivets - they obviously do not protrude on the inside

well, rocking horses do have pooh!!! - I have found an original Albacore rudder - for sale as a pub decorative item!! I could not believe my eyes when I saw the advert and there was an original Alb rudder!!

compared with my original rudder, this one has bolts and nuts through the stock and head, instead of the alloy rivets on mine - and the blade has this folded over band of ?bronze on its leading edge - are those standard features or afterthoughts?

maybe searches for old sailing gear should focus on pubs with nautical theme pretensions - what a drag!!
