Wot's this then?

Post by phil58490 »

We haven't had one for ages so what is it, perhaps that should be what was it?

I'm pretty sure it's a Sea Dart.. there was another one on ebay a few months ago...

Google turns up less than nothing on the class.. Probably best forgotten, that hull is never going to perform well...

I immediately thought "Sea Dart" also (the moulded logo on the rear tank does not contradict this) but when I checked in Burrett, it described a Sea Dart as "simulated clinker GRP with a pram bow". Maybe there were two designs with the same name.

Hi
A failed project. Design was strange to start with very low freeboard and veed hull. I do not know who designed it but several were found at one time parked on Phoenix Wharf. The boat was apparently difficult to sail although, I can't comment on that as I've never sailed one. Like all projects it was one persons dream and I believe that not enough R&D went in to take it foreward. It was hoped that it would compete with the Laser. However like all these things it did not even get a foothold as the price was not much less than a Laser.

I guess it would be cvrda eligible as a lost class.

Love to see one at a cvrda event. Not enough to actually own one, of course...

Hi Rupert
No you wouldn't!!!! The biggest problem was that the mast and dagger board are too close together.

If it ran a very big rudder it could have been balanced...
