Moth wing attachment

Post by realnutter »

Can any mothies please tell me how their wings are clamped to the hull?

I just bought a set off ebay, and there are no holes at their inner ends.... they're also not parallel at their inner ends, so couldn't just slot into a pair of holes...

Any close up pictures of your arrangements would be very welcome!

Ahaaaa! that's where they went. We suspected they might go to a Minisailor needing a bit more leverage  Spiderman won the other bits for a future project.

The simplest mounting for the inboard end is a vertical Ali plate shaped with ears to slot the tube over. I will add a photo of the magnum style mounting that has worked reliably for many years.

At the gunwales they need to be sitting in a shaped support rather than across a sharp edge. Usually the trampoline strings will hold the wings down to the boat, so not much need to clamp down at that point. We usually tie them down to the hull, mainly for lifting the boat by its wings or for when inverted in a capsize.

Cheers
