Small, cheap, single handed dinghy.
Small, cheap, single handed dinghy.
Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a CHEAP, GRP, small single handed dinghy, have been looking at laser 1's but most are over budget, I'm looking for something around £300 or even cheaper! What else should I look at?
Thanks

Minisail!
Or, for a bit more, though my first one cost £300, the Lightning 368.
Minisail is cvrda - able, though!
Minisail.org.uk for more info.

Yes! What Rupert said!!!
Minisprints can go for quite a lot, but original Minisails can go for as much as £4.20!

There was a Harrier on the Dinghy and Dinghy Bits for sale FB group recently - https://www.facebook.com/groups/dinghie ... 6657571112
although it's now sold it's worth keeping an eye out on FB and eBay. Most of the interesting eBay offerings get spotted and posted here. Or bought by Nessa.

Thanks guy, some more to think about! The lightning 368 looks nice!
Is it possible to transport a small dinghy via roof rack? I'm talking very short distances, less than half a mile to beach and back?

There are a couple of topaz going on eBay close to me, but hull only, what's it going to cost and how easy will it be to find the rest?

Most roof racks seem to be certified to 50kg... I bought an inflatable set which strap through the door apertures and fold up nice and small.. they're rated to 80kg so easily cope with a Minisail... should be fine for a Laser too... They're easily searchable on ebay...

The thing to be wary of these days is not so much the roof rack weight limit, but the limit for the car. They are often ridiculously low, but if you exceed you have legal/insurance issues.

I find the car feels a touch unbalanced with boat on roof, you need to adjust cornering speeds to counterbalance .
