Swift restoration
Re: Swift restoration
First sail today, sorry no pictures as it was pouring with rain. Disappointingly light winds but she floated and sailed so I can declare the restoration finished.
The jib luff wire broke as soon as I put tension on it so I really do need a new one before coming to any events. There's a few tittivating jobs to do and I need to make a trolley but nothing major now to do.

Fantastic, I'm so happy that she's back on the water. Diana
Re: Swift restoration
Alan Welman was in touch the other day, he had 419 for many years before passing her on to me. At one point he had a new jib made for the boat to dimensions supplied by the Swift Association. I still have the sail and it was the one I measured a while back:
"The red and white one is: Luff 4070, Leech 3890, Foot 1900, Foot roach 100 approx"
Quite what this shape will do to your jib fairlead position is covered in the 419 thread...as the article says, slap bang on top of the dagger boards!
Pleased to hear she is finished!

Re: Swift restoration
I'll probably get a jib made to the old measurements, as then my fairleads will work!

Excellent, I hope she left the rest of the fleet far behind!
Somehow she seems to float higher than I had imagined, and very pretty too.

Michael, small lakes with light winds aren't ideal, you can't make up what you lose on the tacks! I was very pleased with how she sailed though, really good speed when the wind gusted and good balance. I'm now looking forward to Roadford or Clywedog next year when we can really find out how she goes.

And just to complete the history, here she is sailing in 1959, I think off Leigh. Note the shorter mast mounted on the forward beam.

Yes, that's a great pic. I'm hoping I'll have enough space in and just outside Chichester Harbour though I keep getting told that cats are best out at sea.

Hi Peter
Nice to see her sailing again.
Cheers Alan

Re: Swift restoration
Great to see her on the water. I went to Roadford last weekend to test 339 and was very surprised how good she was. The wind was pretty strong and I was able to fly a hull , without anything breaking whilst sailing single-handed
Sorry no photos.
Looking forward to the Swift Nationals at either Roadford or Clweydog.

Hi Giles
Sorry to have missed you. We were in Brum at the Motorhome and Caravan Show. Glad to here that the trails was successful. I'm sure we could put on the Swift "Nationals" for you.
Regards Alan
