I don't think he converted ICs, I think he built new....from cedar strip?

I think it would work better than some of the off-shore sculls you see.

There used to be a guy in North Devon who was making off-shore sculling boats.... and he used Nethercott IC shells to do it.

I will try and find a reference to it, ah here it is. Took me ages....gave up and stared following a link about the Truc 12, which is a pretty little boat and suddenly there it was:

Yes, I saw that. It is what I would call an open restricted scull. They were quite popular in the 70s for training.

Looks like a nice renovation. I wonder how much it will go for.

I have found another new boat builder, they look rotomoulded, prices substantially cheaper, their is a cruiser/trainer for around £900, a more serious longer scull for £1300 all include vat.

This site is run by guy who runs his own "sculler's school" and also brokers a number of interesting "Fun" boats, both Sculling "play-boats" and more serious touring style boats. (Also a few miniature Trimarans.)

The site gives you a good overview of what is out there if you are not after an old woodie or a serious racing shell.

These are mostly rather expensive, but what you get is immediately useable, pretty much maintenance free and will carry a good re-sale value if you look after it.

11726.Sets of sculling blades
I have six sets of sculling blades for sale.
Will sell separately or altogether.
286cm in length- fixed.
They are Aluminium shafts with big cleaver type spoon.
Black rubber grips. Spoons were painted and most had new grips a couple of years ago.
Fully usable, just need to make room for new blades.

I presume there may be riggers. If not perhaps that accounts for the (very) cheap price. Nonetheless, riggers could easily be made and there are quite a few (suitable) oars out there. Not least from here...

If you ask for the mahon blades, these are currently out of fashion and sell for very little, unless they are selling for display/trophy purpose.

Not a single scull, but a "Modern" "Tub-pair" Used as a training boat for novice oarsmen. Could probably be rigged as a Double scull and take a Cox. The crest on the bow deck looks to me like "Eton Rowing Boats," who had to stop trading under that name @ 10 years ago due to infringement of Charitable status of the school. (The company was essentially financially underwritten by the school which like most private schools has converted to charitable status. A charity is not allowed to maintain a loss making trading company or something along those lines)

They now run as a Repair shop for Racing boats. "ES Composites" run by the former manager Eric Sims.

This would be a fun Cruising boat for an established oarsman, and a good starter for a novice. Robust build. Would certainly scrub up nicely and maintain its value, and in the right hands in the right place it would be a bundle of fun for days when there is no wind!
