Sad news..John Oakley

Post by dronskiuk »

Saddened to hear that John Oakley ...multiple dinghy world and national championship winner and Olympic representative has died. Was a bit of a local hero to many young lads sailing dinghies on the Hamble in the sixties and later. Really kind to me and other youngsters - my condolences to his family and friends.

Likewise. Mike Fitzpatrick (who persuaded me to buy my first Finn at 16) sailed a Soling campaign with him. I remember them at Weymouth Olympic week when they just lost out on the Olympic place, but won the 'tap dancing on the foredeck' competition!

I can't see anything else on line about this? Very sad indeed. Elvstrom not getting it all his own way at PGYC.
