Vintage Int 14 sails - what to do?

Post by gbr1084 »

Whilst acquiring a Project Flying 15 for a friend, the seller was going to include 3 sets of International 14 sails. In fairness I separated them and suggested he was better selling them separately, as he knew the history, and there were still vintage I14's out there being sailed. I was then asked how & where - to which I had little to add - other than I would post here for comment.

After sailing Hornets in the 50's, he bought Int 14 K549 - Fairey built Uffa Fox design (1948?) in 1962, and during the 1960's bought 3 sets of sails & 2 spinnakers. Sailed in at least one POW, and had the boat out in the Indian Ocean (one set of sails modified for Monsoon sailing he says) Having looked at them today briefly they don't appear to be heavily used - not perfect - some stains (from windows). Unfortunately to windy to photograph, so will try when I collect the F15. Sadly K549 is no more having disintegrated in 2006.

What to do with the sails is his issue?

I’m restoring a 1948/9 Uffa Fox int 14 and have no sails for it. In other words I would be interested in set please.

Now got the sails on loan, so I can photograph them at the weekend. There are 3 sets of mains & jibs and 2 spinnakers. If you want me to send photos to you email me on protem at Hotmail.co.uk. Thanks

Hi James, I also have a vintage 14 so don't let Chris B have all the sails

If any are left perhaps you could send me details?
