Aldeburgh Classic Weekend 2018, June 16th and 17th

Post by suffolkmerlin »

Confirming that this weekend is on and we hope to welcome as many visitors as possible who want to test their skills on our tidal river. This year to encourage entries the entry for the weekend will be just £10 p/boat and we also offer free camping/camper van parking on site. There will be an informal supper in the club on the Saturday night provided by our resident caterers (probably £15 p/h). First race Saturday not before 13.00 hrs, second race not before 15.00 hrs, one race Sunday morning. This year we are also holding the Classic Dragon Championships, a 3 day event starting on the Friday. It is envisaged that they will be sailing on different parts of the river with a separate starting area.

We have now published on the AYC website, Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions and Entry Forms. Go to www.aldeburghyc.org.uk and click on sailing and then Event Docs. Pre entry/idea of numbers would really help the club caterers in respect of Breakfast Baps, lunches and the informal supper on Saturday evening. Entry is just £10 for the weekend with free camping/camper van parking.

Greetings, all!

I have just acquired an old wooden International 14 (K871, 1965 I think), and took it out for its first test sail this afternoon. Sadly, we will not be ready to race at Aldeburgh, but still plan to go to meet any fellow vintage (the boat, not necessarily the owner!) sailors and to get a few sailing/repair tips . . .

Any International 14 sailors out there coming to the event?

We will be coming again this year with the Moth behind the motorhome and plan to arrive sometime on the Friday. Looking forward to the event and hoping for a little less wind than we had last time I sailed at Aldeburgh.

Peter
We are very lucky at AYC in that we signed up a professional catering company to run our galley, it works well for us and for them. What is also great is we have recently added a large lounge which looks out over the river. Early forecast suggests we should be able to sit out on the terrace after Saturday sailing sipping sundowners

sipping sundowners? Not likely when you know who is crewing for Tim on Harkaway!
Forecast looking good now for both days.

I’m afraid I have to work on Saturday afternoon so can’t make it. I hope it all goes well,
