To help those attempting their first repairs or restorations I'd like to start a glossary of terms to help explain the subject. Something to explain the "what the heck's a ....." questions and a sort of mini wikipedia of boat repairs.

Plywood - sheet material made up of thin layers of wood glued/bonded together. The outer faces are usually of better quality for finishing. The grain of each layer is laid at right angles to the previous layer for added strength. It is found in many thicknesses from 3mm to 25mm or more.
