Minisail
Minisail
Now my crew/daughter has moved on to helming her own boats, I thought I might dabble in a cheap single hander and come to some CVRDA events.
A minisail is being given serious consideration , as I see a few of you sail them (and they are cheap! ) .
I have never sailed one ! , what are they like to sail ?
I have sailed a topper for the first time ever this year at our Roadford lake camping trip and thoughly enjoyed it, F4 gusting F5 ! .
Is a minisail anything like a topper to sail ?.
Best. J

Re: Minisail
Hi Jules,
I have sailed Topper and most variants of Minisail, they are pretty much the same.
Minisails being larger will carry weight better.
I would also think Minisails are faster.
I am selling my Aquabat which is a Minisail clone, this is centre/aft main, but can be sailed just aft or off the boom, you can see pictures on my website (link at bottom of my post) their are also videos on youtube.

Re: Minisail
Pretty similar. Have raced both boats pretty hard over the years. The extra 2 feet in length, if combined with a decent sail, stiff boom and beefed up controls, will give the Minisail 80 or 90 points on handicap over the Topper. The MS is a scream on a reach, slow upwind and pretty good sailing by the Lee on a run. Unlike a Topper, you can bung a seat on to make upwind less painful. Sailing on Whitefriars, I didn't bother.
They both have the same issues, sticking in the light and getting stuck in irons in a blow if not careful. I still plan on getting another soon, too.

Re: Minisail
Thanks for the info, I like the sound of the minisprint: self draining, ctr board etc.

Jules,
Theirs a Sprint at my club, exceptional unrestored condition, I am sure it comes with a double stacking trailer and a new cover, all controls led to both sides of boat, if interested I will try to contact Paul, he is a member of CVRDA.

Re: Minisail
I owned a sprint in the 80s, and it was an absolute blast on the Irish sea and at Bala.

Re: Minisail
Hi,
There are a couple of hulls and a set of spars at Littleton that you can have for a tenner, not absolutely sure what variant they are but I can take some pictures if anyone is interested.
