It is the Ex British Steel SC off the M4.
I've never sailed there, but it is easy to get to and the winds are generally good, blowing off the Atlantic. If there is a space in the calendar, why not?

"wind blowing off the atlantic" may have suggested it wasn't in berkshire, but I take your point!

It can't be that bad there - used to have some good Contenders sailing there I seem to recall!

Well if it's good Contender material, it must be a good sized bit of water. Sounds good!.

Hi Guys
Sailed a two of a kind meeting there in the late sixties. The Lake was big enough to have one of the best Osprey fleets at this time. The water from the lake is used to cool a process in the steel works. I felt that it was warmer than your average lake. Wind is pretty clean except when from the west or north.

Cheers Al

I've seen it from the motorway and it looks good. It's a very open area of dunes between the motorway and the sea, with hills beyond the motorway, so clean winds off the sea.
Could be a blast! Question is when? September?

We have time in the calendar for march june and oct where the month is completly free and we have time in septemeber around shearwater, could also maybe fit in around august or may

So there is plenty of room for an event, i will contact the club and ask if camping etc is available.

Greg

Edit: just receieved this from the club

Our web site is _www.corussailing.info/_ (http://www.corussailing.info/) but
it seems not to be working at the moment and is under reconstuction.

The club is just off the M4 Junction 38 and very easy to find.
The lake is an emergency water supply for Corus steel works and as such the
level is maintained all the year round.

We are only 200 yards from the sea so get the sea breeze and normally these
is a good wind.

There is free camping next to the club which is a large area.
There are adequate toilets and showers.
We have a fully equipped galley which is currently a self help basis.
We have one very wide slipway(100ft) for launching

There is no length restriction but we do not allow cats.

We recently had 52 boats at our regatta and this weekend expect 40 boats for
our solo open and had no problem coping with the boats or people..

Like I said you are most welcome but we would not stop our normal club
racing but can organise a seperate course/start etc.

Sounds like a very active club and i think it could be goo for us.

Roadford is June I hope. Suggest the warmer part of the year as being rather open, April/May or October could be somewhat breezy :D

Sean has sudjested that we go for august as they are quite flexiable then and we are fexable at the begining of august,
though it would be quite alot of traveling for people who go to both Brightlingsea and this event, but other peoples views on this would be great.

just to make it more clear we so far have 1 event every month other than july where we have both frensham and netly in the same month.

It's a bit crammed at that time when there's holidays and class nationals and sailing weeks to draw people away - even us sailing gypsies can't do everything!
Shearwater could probably be flexible (and even get better wind) earlier or later.
