My new i14
Hi everyone,
I know this is off topic, as this boat was built in 1987, but I just wanted to share it with everyone, I have just bought this off a guy in Southampton, we are obviously not going to go out in anything more then a force 2, as my sister and I are a little underweight for it! Luckily I am growing, and my dad is quickly learning on the fireball! It is our first twin trap boat, so I look forward to thing her out on a calm day, I believe it is a Hutchinson 1 design Penultimate built by Ovington boats for the 1987 worlds for Charles Stanley and Charles Hogart (correct me if I am am wrong).....anyway, here she is!
We picked her up on Sunday, and she looks like a fast boat, at least in these videos she does (http://www.malcolmdonald.com/sailingmoviearchive.html scroll down to 'international 14's' to see them, the super cup 1991 part 3 contains a lot of footage of her) mind you in these videos, she is being sailed by world class sailors, but I am sure we will have a lot fun with her,
Max

More photos:
This is the jib of k1200, signed by most of the people who sailed at the 1987 world championships in Japan, I believe at a place called Sendai.

That does look very cool. Really liked that vintage of 14 before they went all skiffy.
Love the signed jib - excellent piece of history.

Thanks Rupert
Originally the i14 class association wanted the jib, but the seller said it had been with the boat for so long that they wanted it to stay with her, it is a good sail too, but we have another jib, and that one is more likely to be used.

Looks good, Max. 1987 eh? That's just 25 years to now, so good for Bough Beech ? Hope to cross bows with you there.

Re: My new i14
I would love to go, but rising fuel costs, and the distance there would be too far for us I am afraid, clibb wrote:Looks good, Max. 1987 eh? That's just 25 years to now, so good for Bough Beech ? Hope to cross bows with you there.

Re: My new i14
Just to clarify, the 25 years old qualification was frozen at 1985 for a few years as it was thought we may end up like the classic Merlins with competetive boats in the main fleet now qualify as classics.

Ah, the board attachment quota is full so I can't attacha photo.
Anyway mine is flat pack and self draining at the moment and nearly 70. Definately a case of..." a hole in the water surrounded by wood into which you pour money"

Re: My new i14
Do you want me to delete one of the photos so you can put it up? As it would be interesting to see a picture of her, I bet she is still a nice looking boat though!chris wrote:looks abit faster and drier than my 'new' one.
