Blithfield event 2013

Post by Podolski »

Hi Everyone,

I've had the idea put into my head of organising a CVRDA meeting at Blithfield next year. I just wondered how many people would be up for attending this event if I got one organised?

For those who dont know Blithfield....

Blithfield Reservoir is situated in some of Staffordshire's most beautiful countryside. The 790 acre reservoir was opened in 1952 and much of the surrounding woodland is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Our, friendly and welcoming, sailing club offers at least 120 acres of clean, unrestricted sailing water, 180 for open meetings and 300 during the winter months.

We are well set up for open meetings with a large, comfortable club house with well equiped, big, changing rooms and most importantly a well stocked bar/galley.

As a club we currently hold many open meetings a year and also inland championships, including this years Merlin Rocket inlands. These are always well supported with boat traveling from all over the country due to our central and easily accessable location.

Camping is available at the club (or the club house floor) or B&B's are located nearby.

I know Blithfield very well. I used to race Ospreys there back in the 80's. I'd be very interested in attending.
Best wishes

We'd also be up for a trip back to Staffordshire - I need to re-stock the freezer with oatcakes!

Depends upon the date...
... but if it is towards the end of June or early in July I might be interested in coming with my Int 12' Dinghy.
We will be holding a 100th anniversary event at West Kirby Sailing Club on June 28-30th with competitors coming from Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Ireland, etc. A few competitors are interested in attending other events while they are in the UK.

From what I recall, Blithfield is/was a classic phantom stronghold. Could we combine with them? Either way I'd be keen to come.

Since Blithfield is a Merlin stronghold I suggest you liaise with Mervyn Allen of the Merlin Vintage wing and hold a joint cvrda/vintage Merlin event as we've done in the past. His best crew lives in your area too!
Likewise any other classic classes the club supports.

I haven't been to Blithfield for a number of years so it would be nice to go there again especially as it's not too far away from us. I would certainly consider attending a CVRDA event there next season particularly if the Dog situation is less restrictive than Bough Beech. What is the club/ Water authority position regarding dogs. As long as they are allowed in the car park and there is somewhere away from the club that they can be walked it will work for us!

This sounds like an excellent place to go sailing!

I guess the question is, would we get home boats coming out to play?

And are you OK with the logistical nightmare that event organization can sometimes be?!

I really think this location could attract many boats which we don't normally see, and I like the idea of combining it with other classic fleets - plenty of space!

Any ideas on dates? Our calendar is empty, currently, I think, so your choice!

As its all offical I thought I would revive this post.

As the Blithfield event is now happening I am keen to get as much of it sorted as possible as, as far as I'm aware this will be the first time we have hosted a classic event.

First of all we have two options that are being considered for races.

1. 5 race series
Saturday 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00
Sunday 10:30, 12:00

Prize giving 14:30

or

2. 6 Races
Saturday 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00
Sunday 10:30, 12:00 and 14:00

Prize giving 16:30

Whats everyones thoughts?

Luke

I've put it in the diary.... and I'll try and drag a few gp14's to it.... as we're getting a GP14 vintage fleet up and running and most are based around the north west, north wales and the midlands!!
