colmere sailing club 13th / 14th September

Colemere Sailing Club was host this week to the 2nd Annual meeting of the Classic & Vintage Racing Dinghy Association for enthusiastic sailors of older traditional boats which were designed before 1965 and are at least 25yrs old.

The weather was very kind all weekend with two races held on Sat afternoon seeing the Merlin Rocket of Chris & Lois Barlow and Keith Rollinson sailing a borrowed Fleetwind of some considerable vintage finish the day with equal points.

Sunday dawned with light breeze and some new arrivals from the Midlands making the toatal entry to 12 boats. The racing was very close all day with no more than 30secs splitting the first 5 boats in each of the three races but Keith Rollinson of Clywedog in the Fleetwind 650(which started its sailing life at Colemere in the 60's) won the series with 3 firsts out of 5 races. In second place were Chris & Lois Barlow in Merlin Rocket 509 from Bristol Shearwater club and in 3rd place was John Gardiner in his Graduate 370 from Bristol Shearwater.
