In conjunction with his family, Bosham Sailing Club are hosting a Centenary Rally in Ian Proctor’s honour now to be held over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd September 2018. as part of the annual Classic Revival event.

This will be a showcase of Proctor designed dinghies. To this end, we are contacting all the class associations of Proctor designs, to seek out the finest examples of his boats, to join us in Bosham for the Centenary Rally weekend.

The organizing team would be grateful for your help in identifying potential candidates for invitation to the event. Invitations will be limited to approx 50 boats in total,  covering the spectrum of his designs and where possible the finest examples of each variant or mark, within each class.

We are already expecting the attendance of:
Gull no 1
Minisail No 1
and some early Wayfarers, Kestrel and Ospreys in addition to Topper, Bosun, Wanderer, National 12, National 18,  Merlin Rocket, Tempest and hopefully more…..

The plan is for boats to arrive on Saturday 2nd June, to set up as a Concours d’Elegance, on Quay Meadow, with a gala dinner (probably limited to 2 tickets per boat) on the Saturday evening.

On Sunday 3rd June, there will be some gentle harbour racing, with a grandstand finish at Bosham Quay followed by various awards.

We are working on some other special visitors to the event, and these will be announced when confirmed.

We expect the Centenary Rally to attract significant interest and it will be a unique opportunity to gather the Proctor clan together to demonstrate just how important Ian Proctor was for the UK dinghy sailing community.

Bosham Sailing Club will be exhibiting at the RYA Dinghy show in March and our stand will feature a tribute to Ian Proctor as will the show itself – see more details here.Ian Proctor’s centenary will create some extensive press coverage:

  • – See the current (Feb) issue of All at Sea – page 17,
  • – As of 8th Feb, David Henshall’s article on yachtsandyachting.com
  • – Further coverage will appear soon and hopefully later in the summer, Yachts and Yachting magazine.
