The Essex One Design was commissioned for the Essex Yacht Club and quickly became established at clubs around the Thames Estuary, and the first class racing started in 1925.
Boats would sail to the host club on Saturday morning, race in the afternoon and sail back on Sunday.
In 1938 some owners commissioned a new design which became the National 18.
The class amalgamated with the Thames Estuary One Design in the late 1960s to form the Estuary One Design class.
