Backed by the Navy in its early days, there is a fleet in Gibraltar as well as at Portsmouth. Class Members are often members of various local sailing clubs, and this leads to a particular characteristic of the boat; all the Portsmouth boats have Black hulls, but the boot-top line colour indicates the Owners home sailing club.
The Victory is a strict one-design boat (including the requirement for a black hull), and a basic principal of the class is that there should be no “cheque book racing”. Sails may only be changed at 3 year intervals.
