The Bristol Aeroplane Plastics ‘Alpha’ dinghy, built in the 1960s at Filton, is an early example of the use of fibreglass/resin construction for sailing boats. It was used for many years in the ‘Pegasus’ sailing club run by and for BAC employees. Alphas were also made by Bossoms and Bourne & Co. The Alpha resembles a Firefly, although many had a massive rubber moulding at the point of the bow in case you ran into anything.
