Sponsored by Yachting World magazine, Explorer had a fibreglass hull and wooden decks, and a gunter rig with a gaff sliding in a track up the mast giving an almost bermuda rig with easy reefing. It also had a distinctive red terylene sail with XX as the sail logo.
