In 1938 George O’Brien Kennedy designed a 14 ft clinker dinghy called Fuss and had it built in Poole for his own use. After the second world war, this design was chosen by the newly formed Irish Dinghy Racing Association and named the Irish Dinghy Racing Association 14ft One Design, rapidly shortened to IDRA 14.
The design was also taken up with variations by Waldringfield SC, Christchurch SC and Hardway SC and also Durban SC in South Africa where they were named REBs.
