A good number of visitors arrived at Hunts Sailing Club for a joint CVRDA and SigneT class meeting.
The weather started well and the first race was enjoyed by all except for Roger Oliva-Knight whose Mirror was hit by a SigneT on the start line and suffered some damage leading to retirement. Peter “Sam” Mason & Richard (Albacore) and Peter Vinton (Finn) set the tone for the weekend, showing that Classic Wing red boats are fast and leading all the races with the Moths of Ian Marchall and Lyndon Beasley following. In the SigneTs, Kate Taylor & Frank Goodall started their successful weekend with a win which also placed them third in the CVRDA fleet on handicap.
During race two the wind increased, becoming gusty and with large windshifts which led to quite a few choosing not to enter race three.
Sunday was again windy and gusty and the first race was a hard fight against the conditions for those who chose to go so the decision was made at lunchtime to cancel race 6 and have just one race after lunch to complete the series. Peter Vinton managed the conditions best to win the last race pushing Sam & Richard into second place for once but the Albacore triumphed overall and also took the Mike Liggett Memorial Trophy for first CVRDA eligible double handed boat on Sunday.
