Four visitors joined the locals on a fine, sunny weekend at Nantwich and Border Counties sailing club. Sam Barker welcomed eeryone with tea and coffee and rigging got started. The first hiccup was when Sandy hauled on the rig tension in the Albacore and the multi sheave organiser block parted company from the mast base. Short screws and some rotten wood were to blame but a search through the spares kit and a borrowed drill secured the block back to the mast base with fatter, longer screws in time to get on the water before the first race finished.
Lyndon brought his International Moth which showed everyone the way round the course to take first place in all three races. Gavin borrowed Sam’s Mirror to give David’s Mirror some competition and took second place in the first race. Richard Fish singlehanded sailing his old Wayfarer with Albacore sails (because he had picked up the wrong set!) took third.
Gavin then swapped boats with Richard for the second race and Sam and Henry got the two International Moths on the water and showed us how to capsize, Sam being so successful at it that he didn’t complete the race.
For the third race, Gavin crewed for Richard in the Wayfarer and they took second place with the wind dropping away and giving the lighter weight Henry chance to finish in front of Sandy & Pat’s Albacore and Sam finally completed a race.
Prizes of pumpkins were awarded to Lyndon, Gavin and Richard and a chip supper was enjoyed by all.

Thanks Nantwich!
