Clywedog 2025

A select but small band of visitors made the journey to Mid Wales this year.

As a shakedown race, we ran a pursuit on Saturday afternoon with  Roger hanging on in the lead for just over an hour but was overhauled by Amy and Jeanette sailing Chris and Lois’s Merlin 507 to great effect, 2nd was Lyndon in the Moth  and 3rd Sandy crewed by Tim who was visiting for the day in the Albacore.

On Sunday morning we had to wait for the wind to appear and what did was only in a small part of the lake, so Keith set a course using the club line and staying close to club, which gave a good view of the racing.  We managed three races with the positions changing many times during the day but Amy and Jeanette were getting into the swing of things and led at the end of the day.

With the forecast saying the remnants of the hurricane were arriving before lunch, Keith had an early briefing at 9:30 and everyone was present on the dot.  The wind had increased a little but still only local to the club so we put some temporary buoys down the narrows and set a small course.

Pat and Sandy powered through to take 1st   with Amy 2nd and Lyndon 3rd.

We squeezed a 5th race in back-to-back with Amy retiring early as they had to get home which saw Lyndon finally getting the top spot with Pat and Sandy 2nd and   Gavin and Chris in the Gem squeezing Roger out to take 3rd place.

Despite the low attendance it was a great weekend with Pat J and Sandy cooking up a tasty chilli and Tim coming specially from the midlands with puddings for us as Pat K was poorly (we wish her well).

The weather was very benign, unlike previous years and everyone went home tired but dry…  a first for Clywedog.
